The Wyoming Cavalry have kicked off their 14th season, and this year they have a new team and a new coach. We are proud to once again be the field sponsor and we hope to have a large presence at each of the seven home games this season.

Fort Rowdy, the balcony, is reserved exclusively for staff of Mountain View Regional Hospital and Clinic and their family members at each game and employees are encouraged to attend. During half time employees and family members storm the field along with the famous Pinzgauer and catapult our stress reliever skulls and T-shirts, both sporting the phrase, “Your Two Hometown Teams” into the crowd.

This is a long-term partnership and we are proud to associate ourselves with the Wyoming Cavalry and their commitment to teamwork and professionalism. They are always willing to sign shirts following the game and are always interacting with the crowd.

We encourage you to come and support your two hometown teams in action this season and enjoy some good, wholesome family entertainment. It’s not just a game…it’s an experience. Upcoming home games are on: May 3rd, May 11th, May 17th and May 31st. Hope to see you there!

Starting May 1st, we will have yet another addition and we are proud to welcome Dr. Anje Kim to our growing team. Dr. Kim comes to us with a diverse and very experienced background in her field. She was most recently employed by Healthpartners Medical Group in Saint Paul, MN as a neurosurgeon after completing her fellowship training at Stanford University Medical Center.

Dr. Kim also worked for Northern Virginia Brain & Spine and served as the Director of Neurotrauma at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Kim specializes in true minimally invasive spine surgery and degenerative, oncologic and infectious diseases of the spine. She brings a lot to the table and we are very excited to add her to the team.

Prior to her career as a neurosurgeon, Dr. Kim received a Bachelor of Music degree from The Juilliard School. Dr. Kim studied classical music and piano. With a busy career in medicine, her love of music has had to take a backseat, but she still enjoys playing whenever she gets a chance.

Dr. Kim enjoys international travel and is looking forward to the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Annual Conference in Seoul, South Korea this coming September. Being from Korea herself, this is a very exciting opportunity for her. In addition to traveling, Dr. Kim and her husband have a passion for scuba diving and recently welcomed a new addition to their family with their son, Nicholas, who arrived in November 2012.

We are privileged to have Dr. Kim join our team and know she will be a great addition to Mountain View.

As we all know, Mountain View Regional Hospital is looking at some serious expansion and growth in 2013. Several new surgeons will be coming on board, and among those is Dr. Mahesh Karandikar, who joined us last month. Dr. Karandikar is an easygoing guy and very humble. His focus is on the contributions he can make towards our hospital and not about what he can get out of it. He has emphasized his appreciation of being part of our team and doesn’t want a lot of attention brought upon him as an individual surgeon.

Dr. Karandikar has recently completed his fellowship training in spine surgery at Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore. Prior to that, he completed a fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in pediatric neurosurgery. He completed his residency at the University of Washington and attended medical school at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Throughout his education and training, Dr. Karandikar received several awards for his exemplary work and achievements. Awards included the Bialer Prize in Chemistry, the Doris Cohen Award, which is awarded to one student for their outstanding thesis, the Biophysics Research Prize, the Alfred Gilman Research Award and the “Exceptional Resident” Service Award. He was also the recipient of grants for both research and training. He has contributed to a dozen publications and given formal presentations, including one with Dr. Kopitnik in 2002 at the Neurosurgery in the Rockies Meeting in New Mexico.

During his residency, Dr. Karandikar had a special interest in tumor surgery, but says he is interested in spinal disease and will do anything neurosurgical. He is ambitious and ready to get started with Mountain View. We are happy to add him to our team of specialists and know that he will be a huge asset. He will be incorporated into the outreach clinic rotation, which will help him start his practice and we hope to get him busy quickly. We are excited to bring such talent to Mountain View.

My esophagus was paralyzed and the chef planned and fixed meals to make them edible for me. I’ve never had such great all around care in my entire life. Anytime I needed anything, someone was right there. No one else can come anywhere near the care you get at Mountain View.

It’s been a great experience and I’m really impressed with the way everything was explained to me before hand so I knew exactly what to expect. The food is also really good. They ask you what you want and how you want it and they get it to you quickly.
